Kyle Filipowski was so good for the Utah Jazz during the Las Vegas Summer League that they had to shut him down to make sure he didn't get hurt. Even while missing the last two games, the NBA awarded Filipowski with Summer League MVP. Doing so confirms something that not many are talking about: the Jazz's future is brighter than people think.
The summer he turned MVP ☀️🏆

Kyle Filipowski is your 2025 NBA Summer League MVP! He becomes the first Jazzman ever to win the award 💜#TakeNote pic.twitter.com/UoHmb8YBxr
Filipowski was nothing short of dominant during the Las Vegas Summer League. In three games, he averaged 29.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists while shooting 56.1% from the field and 39.1% from three. It was clear from start to finish how much better he was compared to the rest of his competition that it's not surprising in the least that he won MVP.
A Summer League MVP doesn't count for that much in the NBA, but his play along with the recognition shows that the Jazz's future is quite bright. It's not like Filipowski isn't coming off a pretty strong rookie campaign, but him only continuing to show how promising he is shows that the Jazz aren't completely deprived of promising young talent.
There's no telling what Filipowski's ceiling truly is, but it is high enough that he could hypothetically be in the Jazz's starting lineup next season. He's tall, he's offensively polished, and he brings scoring quality that not that many young bigs bring to the table. The only questions surrounding him is his defense, but Utah can work around that.
Utah is finally embracing the youth movement, and even if there haven't been any future franchise players necessarily (yet), Filipowski gives them hope that they have something good around the corner. There are other promising youngsters on the Jazz's roster, like Ace Bailey, Walter Clayton Jr., Brice Sensabaugh, and maybe Cody Williams, among others, but Filipowski is letting the record show that he is undoubtedly part of the future.
Filipowski's place in the Jazz's rotation is an exciting subplot
Even though Filipowski could be in the starting lineup, it wouldn't surprise anyone if the Jazz have Bailey, Lauri Markkanen, and Walker Kessler ahead of him in the frontcourt rotation. However, between his exciting first NBA season and his fantastic Summer League, Filipowski has proven he's too good to be kept on the bench.
It's very possible he might be a starter next season, or he could be a super sub at minimum. With the Jazz getting rid of their veterans, there's no reason Filipowski shouldn't see 25 to 30 minutes a night. The talent has shown itself to be undeniable with him.
He may not get an increased role right away, but Filipowski definitelt deserves some of the minutes that have opened up with John Collins gone. Sure, Jusuf Nurkic will likely take some of those, but the Jazz not seeing through what they have with Filipowski would be a fool's errand.
A lot has gone wrong for the Jazz in the last three years, but the team can rest easy at night knowing that they hit a home run long-term with Filipowski.
