The Utah Jazz have been catching pretty much nothing but massive breaks over the past few months. We all know they have the No. 2 pick in a loaded draft class, and it sounds like they have no plans to trade up. It may get even better for them, as it appears AJ Dybantsa truly could be on the table for them at No. 2.
CBS Sports' Adam Finkelstein revealed in his latest intel that it's not a sure thing Dybantsa will go No. 1, which honestly isn't too surprising given how good some of the other draft prospects are. However, he added that at this point, many thought Dybantsa was the safe bet at No. 1, but that's definitely not the case.

No one will know for sure until the draft comes out, but it truly sounds like the Jazz will not rule out Dybantsa as a possibility. That would be amazing too, both because of Dybantsa's talent and his ties to Utah. Darryn Peterson would better fit the Jazz's current needs than Dybantsa, but Dybantsa would be a franchise player in the making and less likely to leave.
It sounds like anything & everything is on the table
By process of being an exceptionally talented draft class, there is no clear-cut frontrunner for the first overall pick, even if most indications have been that it will likely be Dybantsa. The fact that it's not shocking that Washington may take someone else further demonstrates how loaded this class is.
Both Peterson and Cameron Boozer have also been hyped up as generational prospects. They and Dybantsa may not be on the same level as Victor Wembanyama or Cooper Flagg before they entered the NBA, but they're not too far off from them in terms of overall talent.
And that further shows that it would take a miracle for Utah to mess up a situation like this. Even with how tantalizing Dybantsa is as a prospect, it wouldn't be so shocking if their target is Peterson or Boozer because they too are tantalizing in their own ways.
Sure, it took a pretty spectacular tanking job to get to this point, but this is how the ends justify the means. Dybantsa is likely who the Jazz want more than anything in this draft, but there's a reason they won't spend as much as they can to get their hands on him.
Not because there's anything wrong with him, but because Peterson or Boozer are such good backup plans that labeling them as such is actually kind of ridiculous.
