Austin Ainge says quiet part loud about Jazz's golden draft opportunity

It's fair to say that Ainge is saying what every Jazz fan is thinking.

It's not blatantly obvious who will be right there for the Utah Jazz with the No. 2 pick, and that's kind of the beauty of it. This is a supremely talented class of draft prospects, meaning the Jazz may simply take the best player available. In fact, Austin Ainge confirmed what everyone's thinking: there is no consensus on the No. 2 pick.

KSL Sports' Chandler Holt revealed what Ainge told reporters when discussing who they might take with the second overall pick. With less than a month to go, Ainge confirmed that they don't know who they're going to pick.

Part of it is because of Washington's reported uncertainty with who they will take with the No. 1 pick. Even though the consensus is that they will take AJ Dybantsa, that still is not for sure despite him being the favorite.

That's why the Jazz are preparing for just about anything on draft night three weeks from now. The prevailing belief is that Utah will take Darryn Peterson not only because he shores up their guard rotation, but also because there's a fair argument that he is the most talented prospect in this draft.

Maybe it will depend on whether Dybantsa is available with the No. 2 pick, but because there's seemingly no way this can backfire for Utah, by extension, this understandably means they don't really have any idea of who they will pick.

It makes such a historic occasion all the more... well historic

This is all new for the Jazz. For the most part, Utah has never truly depended on tanking to build their playoff teams until these past two years. Even then, typically tanking has not worked out for them. Now, their luck has reversed course, as they just keep getting big break after big break.

Since the NBA invented the lottery in the 1980s, the Jazz have never had the No. 2 pick. In fact, they've only had one No. 3 pick, and it wasn't even theres. It was the Nets back in 2011. Utah has traded up in the past, like in 2005 when they traded up to get Deron Williams, but times like these shoudl be appreciated because they hardly ever happen.

It's so great that the Jazz's higher-ups are straight up admitting that they have no idea what they are going to do when their name gets called. Most importantly, does anyone have a problem with this? They shouldn't because a game-changer will wear a Jazz jersey next season, no matter who that is.

It also confirms one thing above all else: Austin Ainge is a man of the people.
