Is Joe Ingles really a Top 25 player in Utah Jazz history?
By Chad Porto
Few players are as beloved by the Utah Jazz fandom as Joe Ingles but is he worthy of being in the Top 25?
The Utah Jazz have largely been a model franchise for other mid-market teams to mold themselves after. The history of the franchise is well-known by many NBA fans inside and out, and their run through the 80s and 90s established two certain Jazz players as the franchise’s best. They’ve had countless All-Stars in their time and some of the best defensive players the league has ever seen.
So would it be fair to put Joe Ingles in the top 25 of players to have adorned the Jazz’s colors?
Well according to KSL Sports, yes. Dubbing him one of the “greatest success stories in franchise history”, KSL cites him as one of the most “trustworthy players” of his era and acknowledges that he, not Donovan Mitchell, John Stockton, or Gordan Hayward leads the Jazz all-time in made three-pointers.
So, does Ingles deserve to be a Top 25 player? Yes, actually. In fact, you could make a case for him being a bit higher too. With the importance of three-and-D players, few men in the NBA were as reliable on defense guarding the best scorers in the league and then just as reliable hitting threes on the other side.
He’s a genuine two-way player. Not only could he score and defend, but he was one of the better passers in the league and while injuries may have slowed him down some, he’s going to be a very useful asset for the Orlando Magic in the upcoming 2023-2024 season.
Now, he should probably be a bit higher, but not too high. You could arguably make the case that with his talent and the success of the team around, plus his longevity, he should probably be in the Top 20.
