A lot of trade ideas for the Utah Jazz have been bad, but finally, this one works.
It’s been hard to see the amount of trade ideas that the NBA community has done for the Utah Jazz over the last few months. They’ve been, for lack of a better term, bad. They usually see the Jazz giving up way too much to get back too little and that’s largely been an issue that no one has wanted to rectify.
Finally, the Jazz are involved in a trade suggestion we’d be open to. At least, partially. The target is what the Jazz should pursue, but not the bounty being given up. NBA Analysis writer James Piercey has hit the nail on the head when it comes to the type of player the Jazz should target; Spencer Dinwiddie.
He has suggested that the Utah Jazz trade Kelly Olynyk and Talen Horton-Tucker for Dinwiddie. Trading Horton-Tucker makes all the sense in the world, but if there’s a way to not trade Olynyk, I think the Jazz should pursue that option.
The Jazz with Horton-Tucker alone would only need to send over $1.8 million to make the deal work, according to Fanspro. So you don’t need to end over Olynyk. You could send over anyone who makes up the rest of the salary, like Omer Yurtseven (after Oct. 15), or Simone Fontecchio. Heck, even Kris Dunn.
You don’t need to give up as much as the Jazz are giving up, and it seems unlikely that the Brooklyn Nets would want Olynyk, considering they may not even be a playoff team this year. That said, if the Nets do think they’re going to compete, and want Olynyk, I don’t think the Jazz should be so stingy to not make the deal.
