The Utah Jazz saw no point guard make Hoops Hype Top 24 heading into 2023-2024.

The Utah Jazz should be applauded for what could be an offseason to remember. Three potential studs in Brice Sensabaugh, Keyonte George, and Taylor Hendricks came to them in the draft. Then the Jazz traded for John Collins, a forward with a lot of upside, who came in for next to nothing. They also re-upped Jordan Clarkson’s contract, keeping him around a while longer.

It’s been a great offseason, after a shockingly good year. That said, the Jazz still lack elite point guard play. While Clarkson is good, and Collin Sexton has the room to be, neither man is at an All-Star level. In Clarkson, he’s as good as he’ll ever be, but there’s still hope for Sexton. Still, hope only gets you so far, and potential will get you fired. You need to deliver.

Sure, George could be that guy, and so could Talen Horton-Tucker (though less likely) and Kris Dunn (even lesser likely). But while the upside and potential are there, they aren’t elite by any means today.

So it shouldn’t surprise anyone to see the Jazz not represented on Hoop Hype’s Top 24Point Guard list. Sexton and Clarkson are less point guards anyway, so it’s not surprising to see neither make the list. Though it’s a little outlandish that Scoot Henderson got a slot on the list, and not someone like George.

Both men are rookies and George out-paced Henderson in the Summer League. Henderson has proven very little and only got this spot out of his draft hype. Truthfully, no rookie should ever be included on such lists, as it only sets people up for disappointment, but if you’re going to include Henderson, George should be there as well.

After all, of the NBA action both men saw this summer, George out-paced Henderson in everything but assists, and even then the margins were minimal.

Next. 3 interesting but not great trade proposals for the Utah Jazz. dark
