3 Utah Jazz that earned untouchable status, 1 that should be cut loose
By Eric Fritts
3. Collin Sexton
Giving Collin Sexton the untouchable status is a little bit of a stretch at first glance. Sexton was sent over as a piece of the Donovan Mitchell trade with Cleveland. Looking at his career, he has been a serviceable player with some pretty good highlights. With the Jazz specifically, there hasn’t been much to go off of. He only played 48 games due to injury and averaged only 14.3 points per game, well below his scoring potential. In his second and third seasons, he averaged 20.8 and 24.3, respectively.
However, the fact is that Sexton is a dynamic scorer. He can attack the hoop and shoot from a long distance. He is the kind of player who can swing a game on any given night. But, he is also a high-usage player. He needs the ball in his hands to make things happen.
So where does that fit in for Utah?
Off the bench. Ball-dominant guards are quintessential Sixth Man of the Year winners. Utah’s own Jordan Clarkson fit this role perfectly, winning the award in 2021. Now, Clarkson is a starter, and deservedly so. This opens the door for Sexton to be one of the primary scorers off the bench in Utah.
