Utah Jazz Free Agent Target #3: Taurean Prince

Do you also wish Frank Ntilikina was a little taller? Could we interest you in Taurean Prince?

Granted, it’s not a perfect comparison. Ntilikina is probably a better defender. He also has a significantly worse track record from three-point range.

Prince is hitting on 37.1% of his 4.6 attempts per contest over his career. He’s only exceeded the 40% threshold once (last season as a Cavalier), but he’s also only dipped below 35% once (2019-20). Generally speaking, he’s been the picture of reliability from three-point range.

He’s also a solid, if unspectacular defensive player. His DBPM of 0.1 this season is roughly in line with his career average of -0.2. Prince may not be as dogged a worker as some on that end, but he’s solid and versatile. The Jazz would be able to line him up at any frontcourt position depending on matchups.

He may be a little redundant alongside Rudy Gay and Eric Paschall. He may also be better. Gay isn’t getting any younger, and Paschall is neither the three-point threat or defensive player that Prince is. Those two skills happen to be the two the Jazz need the most.

The next player listed happens to provide more of each.
