Utah Jazz dud: Joe Ingles
By the nature of his game, Ingles will have nights like this one. He’s not a dominant offensive presence. He’s a connector. He asserts himself when necessary, and otherwise gives his teammates space to operate.
He almost disappeared in last night’s action.
Ingles did have 6 assists. His passing is key to his overall value, and so that has to be mentioned. Nonetheless, 2 points on 1/4 shooting from the field (including a goose egg on three attempts from deep) doesn’t quite cut it.
There were also times where it felt like Ingles’ slow feet held back the Jazz’s subpar transition attack. That’s not generally an issue for the Jazzmen, as they rank 12th in the NBA in Pace overall. That’s an entirely acceptable mark for the best offensive team in the NBA.
On the other hand, 0 transition points is not. The blame for that statistic can’t be solely squared on Ingles, but he wasn’t helpful. Coupled with the fact that he managed a single made field goal, that makes him the lone dud from last night’s contest.
An uninformed observer may not think they were watching one of the best teams in the NBA in the Utah Jazz last night. Regardless, every win in the NBA counts for the same. The Jazz were lucky to escape with one against the Pelicans.
