Imagine the Utah Jazz spacing if Rudy Gobert was to drain threes regularly.
Keep in mind that almost every primary deep-ball splasher returns from a Utah Jazz squad that finished first in the overall league standings, in large part by setting an all-time NBA record with its average of 16.7 splashes beyond the arc per game.
Now, let’s talk about an attack that could be almost impossible for opponents to guard with any regular success. That would probably be the case — and then some — with Rudy Gobert joining in the fun from downtown.
A 3-point plan in the works for Utah Jazz treasure Rudy Gobert?
On Sunday, Utah Jazz insider Eric Walden of The Salt Lake Tribune tweeted the following video of Rudy Gobert launching a trio of 3-point attempts during practice, alongside regular snipers Mike Conley and Royce O’Neale. And it doesn’t look as if the 7-foot-1, 260-pound Frenchman was doing so as a way to goof around:
The first attempt from Gobert appears borderline buttery — relatively speaking, of course — as the 29-year-old swished a three from the corner. On the other hand, as for the offline airball and loud brick that ensued as he worked his way around the arc, they point to plenty of work to do before the stroke routinely pops up in meaningful game action.

Judging from the above evidence, Gobert seems to “push” his 3-point shots a bit. Still, it doesn’t look completely hopeless.
Plus, even though the number is minimal, it’s worth noting that Rudy Gobert attempted a career-high four 3-pointers last season. That was more than his combined total from the previous seven campaigns. Nevertheless, the two-time All-Star has yet to make a 3-point attempt in the NBA.
Maybe this will be the year that changes.
