The Utah Jazz are one of three teams currently showing early interest in New York Knicks unrestricted free agent Damyean Dotson.

With the 2019-20 NBA season suspended, just about everything remains in question. Will the season resume? What’s the pre-draft process going to look like? Will free agency start on time? When will the 2020-21 season start? For the Utah Jazz, and all 29 other teams, this hiatus is a time to do some homework.

The Jazz were players in last years free agency, acquiring Bojan Bogdanovic, Ed Davis and more. They aren’t expected to be as active this summer, but one name is already being linked to them — New York wing Damyean Dotson.

According to Marc Berman of The New York Post, the Milwaukee Bucks, Utah Jazz and Golden State Warriors are “expected” to show interest in the 25 year old from Houston.

Dotson was the 44th pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. He had a strong pre-draft workout with the Jazz, but ended up in New York. He showed a lot of signs in his second year, averaging 10.7 points while hitting 36 percent of his three-pointers.

This season, though, has been a challenge for him. His minutes were down to 17.4, and his field goal percentage was the lowest of his three-year career. He’s averaging just 6.7 points and was a healthy DNP-CD in seven of the last eight games.

With RJ Barrett in place, another lottery pick on the way and bigger free agency hopes, Dotson won’t exactly be a priority for New York.

His future with the Knicks is murky, which will make him an intriguing free agent option. He’s not at the top of the class, but he can help a team with his shooting and defense. Contenders may be lining up for his services.

I’ve always been a big fan of Dotson’s game. He’s not the best athlete, but he’s improved into a reliable “3&D” option and still has room to grow. I’d be interested to see him in a place known for developing talent rather than, well, the Knicks.

He’d give the Jazz another young option on the wing, and will likely come at a cheap price. I’d be all in favor of a move like this, but let’s remember, anything can change between now and free agency. This could just be preliminary interest.

Damyean Dotson would be an underrated free agent target for the Utah Jazz. He’s proven capable of being a rotational NBA player and would improve under coach Quin Snyder. How do you feel about Dotson as a potential addition?
