The Utah Jazz have announced that they have waived Trey Lewis and signed former Oklahoma guard Isaiah Cousins.
Dennis Lindsey and the Utah Jazz know what roster they will be bringing into the regular season, but they aren’t done making moves. The team has waived Trey Lewis and signed Isaiah Cousins, but these are moves for the Salt Lake City Stars, Utah’s G-League affiliate.
Assuming Lewis clears waivers, he could join the Stars for the 2018-19 season. Cousins will also likely be waived, where he will re-join the Stars as well. Cousins was with the Stars last season and averaged 13.2 points, 4.2 assists and 3.6 rebounds per contest.
Lewis did not appear in either of the two preseason games the Jazz have played thus far, as he has been nursing a sprained ankle. Lewis played college basketball with Jazz star guard Donovan Mitchell.
Cousins was the 59th overall pick by the Sacramento Kings back in 2016. He hasn’t played an NBA game yet, but he’s definitely a guy that is knocking on the NBA door. He’s a shifty 6-foot-4 guard that can play either backcourt spot. He shot 40 percent from 3-point land for the Stars last year on 4.2 attempts per game.

Also, Cousins played college ball at Oklahoma with Kings guard Buddy Hield. The duo of Cousins and Hield gave opponents headaches. While Hield got most of the spotlight because of his 25.0 points per game, Cousins was very good and made a huge impact on that Sooner team.
The Jazz have three preseason games left, and still have 20 players on the roster. You can expect them to trim that roster down soon, as you can only bring 15 players (with two additional slots reserved for two-way players) into the regular season.
Cousins, along with Jairus Lyles and Isaac Haas are on the outside looking in. However, they are all talented players that the team will be able to slowly develop with the Salt Lake City Stars.
