Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell stopped by University of Utah to share some words of wisdom with the Utes men’s basketball team.
A few days ago, newly signed Utah Jazz forward Georges Niang stopped by Utah State University in between destinations on his Jazz youth clinic tour. He was able to get in a workout and left a nice shout out to the Aggies and their fans. He’s one of many Jazzmen who’s been extremely busy this summer with various off-court activities, not to mention all the effort he’s surely putting in on the hardwood.
Another Jazzman who’s likewise had a lot on his plate this summer has been Donovan Mitchell. He traveled seemingly all over the globe in the early part of the offseason with a handful of exotic stops. Since then, he’s won an ESPY, made several appearances at Summer League and has busied himself with good deeds all throughout the summer months.
Recently he visited Kearns High School near Salt Lake City to hand out backpacks and T-shirts to outstanding students.
And since then, Mitchell’s been making further rounds once again. While Niang visited Utah State in Logan, Utah a few days back, Mitchell made a trip on Thursday to the university closest to home – University of Utah.
The Utah basketball team posted a nice tribute to Donovan thanking him for his visit on Twitter Thursday evening–
It would have been awesome to be a fly on the wall and hear the words of wisdom that Donovan imparted on the young athletes who are all likely aspiring to reach a level similar to his. Surely, as the tweet above stated, there was an emphasis on staying humble and hungry, two traits which Mitchell has mastered.
The University of Utah has produced some excellent NBA talent in recent seasons including Kyle Kuzma in 2017, Jakob Poeltl in 2016 and Delon Wright in 2015. In years prior, Ute alums such as Andrew Bogut, Andre Miller and Keith Van Horn had prolific careers at the NBA level as well.
So it’s entirely possible that Donovan Mitchell was inspiring some bona fide NBA talent when he visited and spoke with the University of Utah basketball squad on Thursday. I’ve no doubt that he left a major impact, and it’s cool to see him spending his free time inspiring others, be it high school kids from Kearns, student-athletes at University of Utah or the various children and other fans he’s helped all summer long.
Simply put, Donovan Mitchell is one righteous dude.
