Utah Jazz standout Donovan Mitchell continues to shine off the court as his lengthy list of charitable acts keeps on growing.
As amazing as Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell was on the court last season, it’s quite possible that he’s exceeded even that level of greatness with his charitable acts this summer. From paying to repair an iPhone for a random fan in need to making several children’s day with simple acts of kindness, his list of good deeds has grown quite lengthy.
But even so, he refuses to quit. On Tuesday, Mitchell made a surprise visit to Kearns High School near Salt Lake City to hand out T-shirts and backpacks to students who had maintained high GPAs or significantly improved them. Obviously, more meaningful for the Kearns students than the swag Mitchell was handing out was his presence itself. Having the face of the Jazz present at a surprise assembly is surely an occasion they won’t soon forget.
Mitchell stated that he wanted to give back to the kids for all their hard work and added, “I’m really proud of you guys.” He also promised more rewards to come.
Seeing a guy like Donovan give back to the community time and time again has been so impressive to behold. He simply does the right things off the court and has endeared himself to the community in a way seldom seen in Utah.
In my opinion, the best thing about it is how truly sincere he is about interacting with the fans and children that love him so much. It’s clear that Mitchell genuinely enjoys giving back and is happy to give of his time to those whose days and even lives he can brighten.
Mitchell doing good in the community is hardly a surprise anymore, but it’s still awe-inspiring every time he does something new such as this. As he continues to improve and his popularity keeps rising, I’m sure we’ll witness even greater deeds and acts of kindness from the budding Jazz star.
The Utah Jazz have found themselves an amazing player on the court and an amazing person off of it. Here’s to hoping that Mitchell remains a part of the team and the Salt Lake City community throughout his career and beyond.
