It appears that former Utah Jazz two-way player Erik McCree will be headed to Italy for the next chapter of his professional basketball career.

The Utah Jazz have kept most of their 2017-18 roster intact and plan to “run it back” in 2018-19. However, one player who won’t be back with the Jazz is Erik McCree, who is reportedly set to join Italy’s VL Pesaro.

According to Sportando Italia, the two sides are “very close” to coming to an agreement.

McCree was signed to a two-way contract by the Jazz during the regular season. However, he only appeared in four NBA games, and spent the rest of his time playing for the Salt Lake City Stars, Utah’s G-League affiliate.

Before playing for the Jazz and the Stars, McCree was with the Miami Heat for training camp, and suited up for their G-League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce.

During his time with the Stars last season, McCree did play very well. He averaged 18.9 points and 5.1 rebounds in 34.3 minutes. He averaged 16.2 points and 5.3 rebounds for the Skyforce.

McCree was supposed to play for the Jazz during summer league, but didn’t play a single game due to personal reasons. It was am unfortunate development; had he played well, he could have earned a roster spot with the Jazz or even another NBA team.

Coming out of Louisiana Tech, nobody expected him to become the next Karl Malone or Paul Millsap, but I do think he has an interesting skill set that fits in today’s NBA.

Hopefully, he will get another NBA shot in the future, but for now, he’ll be playing in Serie A for the Libertas. We’ve seen a lot of players head overseas and ball out, so maybe he’s next in line.

Wishing him nothing but the best!
