Utah Jazz alumni: Hayward family shares awkward gender reveal
Utah Jazz alumnus Gordon Hayward and his wife are expecting their third child, but the All-Star seemed less than thrilled in the gender reveal video.
Love him or hate him, there’s no questioning that former Utah Jazz All-Star Gordon Hayward wasn’t ever exactly the most emotional guy. He often was pretty reserved and borderline monotone in interviews and rarely showcased emotion on either end of the spectrum, be it excitement or frustration.
It should come as little surprise then, that he apparently reacts to other life events in a similar fashion. It’s been widely known that Mrs. Hayward is expecting baby number three, and in a recent video that was shared on social media on Tuesday, Gordon and his daughters revealed the gender of the newest little darling.
It turns out that Hayward will continue to be surrounded by females as the newest addition to the family will be yet another daughter. But if the video evidence is any indication, his typical lack of emotion aside, he’s presumably not that thrilled with the result.
You can see it for yourself in the tweet below–
You have to admit, that was a little…bizarre. All I can keep hearing on replay in my head now whenever I see an image of Gordon Hayward is “Daddy’s always happy.”
In his defense, after having two girls, he was probably hoping number three would finally be a son who could potentially follow in his NBA footsteps. Or maybe inside he was bursting with joy and his nonchalant attitude simply won the day giving a false impression of disinterest and disappointment. However, his tone and body language seem to indicate that this was more than just his typical personality shining through.
Take the video however you will, but the fact of the matter is that Gordon’s reaction was pretty comical. The soon-to-be proud father of three daughters will certainly have his hands full with the trio of young ladies running around. Hopefully once he’s accepted the reality that he’s having another girl, he’ll show a little more exuberance on the day she’s born.
Next: Will the Utah Jazz be a better team this year?
And ideally, for Hayward’s sake, he’ll be able to show even more emotion (or the lack thereof) once he hits the court this fall. He’ll presumably be ready for training camp after suffering a season-ending leg injury in his Boston Celtics debut last year.
Despite the way he ruffled some feathers in Utah, Gordon Hayward deserves the chance to play the game he loves at a high level next season. Nevertheless, when he makes his return to Salt Lake City in 2018-19, expect Jazz fans to be a little more “expressive” then he was at his recent gender reveal.
