#3 – Jazz blow Golden State off the planet – January 30

The Utah Jazz shot 50 percent from 3-point range and absolutely crushed the Golden State Warriors 129-99.

There are actually two games that fit this headline – the one on January 30 and the one on April 10. The latter of the two featured the Jazz winning by an astounding 40 points, Golden State’s worst loss of the season. However, given the fact that they had already solidified their playoff spot and weren’t playing at full strength, I think it goes without question that the win on January 30 was even more impressive.

Part of the reason for that was that the outcome was simply so unexpected. The Jazz had won two games in a row heading into the contest, but before that they had dropped all the way to nine games below .500. I’m pretty confident no one had pegged the Jazz as winners over the defending champs.

But win they most certainly did.

The Jazz punched the Warriors in the mouth right off the bat as they led by as many as 10 in the first quarter and would go on to hold a 13-point lead at halftime. No lead is safe against the Warriors, though, and I’m sure many figured Golden State would get back in the game with a huge run. But that run never came.

The Jazz kept their feet on the gas for the entire contest and extended their lead all the way to 129-99. It was Golden State’s worst loss of the season at the time, meaning that each of the Warriors’ two worst losses came at the hands of the Jazz.

This victory on January 30 marked Utah’s third straight win in a streak that would eventually reach 11. The game was so mind-blowingly exciting because Utah shot 50 percent from three while the Warriors shot just 20 percent. Rubio, Mitchell and Joe Ingles all finished with 20 points or more in what was an absolutely thrilling blowout over the defending champs.
