Utah Jazz notes: Jeremy Evans gets called up, Mark Eaton’s new book
By Ryan Aston
Former Jazzman Jeremy Evans will suit up in the NBA once again. Elsewhere, Utah Jazz legend Mark Eaton’s new book is set to hit retailers.
Jeremy Evans had himself a pretty productive afternoon on Saturday. Starting at center for the Erie Bayhawks, the former Utah Jazz draftee and fan favorite hit a couple of 3-point baskets, scoring nine points and adding 10 boards and two steals to help his team advance in the G-League playoffs.
His next big rebound, long-range bomb or hammer dunk could come in the Association.
According to ESPN’s Ian Begley, the Atlanta Hawks are set to sign Evans to a 10-day contract. Evans previously joined the Hawks for training camp and preseason play, but was released before the 2017-18 season tipped off.
He hasn’t played in a regular season NBA game since February of 2016.
Nevertheless, Evans has been one of the G-League’s better players this season, averaging 15.3 points, nearly 10 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game. Although he’s always been known for his athleticism, Evans has also worked hard to expand his shooting range. He’s made 29 of his 91 attempts from distance for the year.
The now 30-year-old is best remembered for his five-year run with the Jazz from 2010-15. During that time, he won the 2012 Slam Dunk Contest at All-Star Weekend in Orlando, Florida. Following the conclusion of his Jazz career, Evans spent time with the Dallas Mavericks, Indiana Pacers and BC Khimki in Russia.

If I can editorialize here for a moment, Evans is truly one of the game’s great guys. With any luck, he can use this late-season call-up to the ATL as a springboard toward his next basketball opportunity.
Eaton releases new book
To this day, Mark Eaton remains one of the greatest defensive players the NBA has ever seen. More recently, though, he’s been making a name for himself on the speaking circuit, sharing his secrets to success with Fortune 500 companies, government agencies and schools alike.
Now, he’s set to release a new book.
Entitled “The Four Commitments of a Winning Team,” Eaton’s book aims to “enable industry leaders, teams and individuals to outsmart, outlast and outperform their competition and achieve record-breaking success,” per the press release. Fellow Jazz legend John Stockton wrote the book’s forward.
Four Commitments will officially drop on Tuesday, April 3. That night, Eaton will be on-hand for a book signing at the Jazz-LA Lakers game at Vivint Smart Home Arena to usher in its arrival.
