The Utah Jazz got an epic introduction before their bout with the Sacramento Kings courtesy of ‘Sexy Sax Man’ Sergio Flores.

Outside of the J-note on the team’s uniforms or the occasional quip from an announcer or writer, the Utah Jazz’s musical roots are something of an afterthought these days. The Jazz moniker may have been inspired by New Orleans’ famed jazz music scene, but Utah is more about its snowy peaks, the red rocks down south and fry sauce.

However, we got a funky dose of those jazzy roots on Saturday night, courtesy of the Sacramento Kings.

When Utah’s starters were introduced to the crowd at the Golden 1 Center just before tip-off, they were played onto the court to the tune of George Michael’s “Careless Whisper” by ‘Sexy Sax Man’ Sergio Flores.

More from The J-Notes

For the unfamiliar, Flores teamed with YouTuber Mike Diva in 2010 to create maybe the greatest video ever to appear on the platform. In the original vid, Flores showed up in very random, very public spots around Los Angeles to play the famous sax line from Careless Whisper. Much to the befuddlement of everyone around.

The video’s “director’s cut” hit the net in 2011 and has amassed more than 36 million views to date. Seriously — greatest video ever. What’s better than ’80s music, George Michael and gyrating sax players in leather pants? I legitimately looked into tapping Flores to do his sexy sax act at my wedding last year.

Here’s the Jazz’s Sexy Sax Man treatment from this past weekend. As Kings public address announcer Scott Moak introduces the Jazz, Sacramento’s mascot Slamson rode onto the court on a tricycle, pulling Flores along in a red wagon —

Now, I know that the Kings are “pranking” the Jazz here, but I think it’s the best intro ever. Really, the Jazz should co-opt the thing and bring it home to Vivint Smart Home Arena.

Nothing says jazz like a saxophone and nobody does the sax like ‘Sexy Sax Man’ Sergio Flores. If you don’t believe me, check out the cut that started it all —

Next: Trey Burke has been kind of amazing for the Knicks

Glorious.
