Utah Jazz notes: Mitchell plays matchmaker, Hayward not expected back
By Ryan Aston
Donovan Mitchell helps one Utah Jazz fan with his love life and former Jazzman Gordon Hayward’s return this season may have been ruled out.
It’s only his first year on the big stage, but Utah Jazz rookie Donovan Mitchell has already worn several hats for his squad. He’s been a draft-night steal, a pink backpack carrier, a Rookie of the Year candidate, a go-to guy, a Slam Dunk champion and your friendly, neighborhood Spida-Man.
After this weekend, you can also add matchmaker to that list.
A Jazz fan on Twitter @JRB48417549 was looking ask a girl in his chemistry class for a date and thought a night at Vivint Smart Home Arena would fit the bill nicely. So, he decided to take a shot in the dark and direct message the Jazz rook to see if he could hook him up with some tickets.
To his surprise, Mitchell actually responded to the message. And just as he’s done on the floor for the Jazz all season, he delivered Karl Malone-style —
With the tix in hand, the fan asked the girl in chemistry out and the two apparently had an awesome time. He later promised to name his first-born son Donovan if he ends up getting married.
Seems like a fair trade to me.

Big ups to Mr. Mitchell for hooking the kid up. Also — Donovan, my man, I think my PlayStation 4 is on its last legs. Do you have a hook-up for a PS4 Pro, too?
Gordon Hayward’s return looking more unlikely
After former Jazzman Gordon Hayward broke his tibia in his Boston Celtics debut, it was instantly assumed that he would miss the entirety of the 2017-18 NBA season. However, some hope remained that he could make a late comeback for the Cs.
Although reports have indicated that Hayward’s rehab is progressing nicely, Boston coach Brad Stevens looks to have thrown a wet blanket on talk of G-Time’s return.
Said Stevens to Chris Mannix: “My mindset is he’s not coming back. That’s the way we’ve approached it. Gordon and I have never had a conversation about him coming back.”
So much for that revenge game against the Celtics in Salt Lake City on March 28.
