Although the Utah Jazz have yet to reveal uniforms representing a major shift from past kits, the team is getting recognized for their ‘new’ style.
Currently, the Utah Jazz roster has an air of finality about it. The team is more or less set for opening night aside from an unsettled battle between Joel Bolomboy and Royce O’Neale for the 15th and final spot on the squad. Still, there remains at least one unknown in Jazzland with just over a month remaining before NBA training camps begin to open.
Namely, what exactly Jazz players will wear throughout the season. The league’s eight-year apparel partnership with Nike has begun, but the Jazz have only revealed two of their four uniforms for the 2017-18 campaign. And those two only offer subtle variation from the home and road kits worn last season.
Nevertheless, the Jazz are receiving high marks for their ‘new’ duds.
In their ranking of the jersey sets of all 30 NBA teams, Complex appraised Utah’s unis as the sixth-best in the Association. Top honors went to the Portland Trail Blazers’ new threads, followed by the Milwaukee Bucks and Sacramento Kings.
As for the Jazz, writer Max Rappaport had this to say about the latest edition of the blue, green and gold —
"After rocking one of the most beloved uniforms in league history in the late-90s and early-2000s, the Jazz underwent one of the worst NBA rebrands ever in 2004. Thankfully, they’ve found their way in recent years, returning to a look more reminiscent of their pre-Salt Lake City history in New Orleans. These uniforms are killer, and the fact that they’re using their sponsorship patch to raise money for a cancer charity is a definite bonus."

While I’d never hype the ’90s mountain logo/jerseys as ‘beloved,’ I can go with the current kits being killer. As the old saying goes, if it ain’t broke…don’t fix it. The classic colors (or something close to them, as it were) and J-note logo are excellent.
It’s nice to see somebody outside Salt Lake City give the team literal style points. Rudy Gobert and Co. may not win the West, but they’ll look good on the hardwood.
The Jazz will reveal their other two jerseys in the fall and winter, respectively. I, for one, would like to see a black uniform or a throwback to the road greens of old. That said, if the rumors about a gold uni are true, we may just see the team move into the Top 5.
