Utah Jazz

Current Record: 30-19

Standings: 1st in Division, 5th in Conference

Utah went 9-6 in the month of January, the best mark of any of their divisional foes. However, it was a worse win percentage than what they put up in November and December and ended with them losing three of four games while struggling to beat several inferior teams earlier in the month.

Still, the Jazz currently find themselves atop the division despite their lackluster play of late and, as you’ve probably gathered, regardless of their recent mini-slump I expect them to hold that spot indefinitely.

The Thunder are a great team, but lack the depth to match what the Jazz are capable of and as I detailed yesterday, there’s plenty to be optimistic about for Utah moving forward.

Principal among those reasons for optimism is the fact that Utah’s lulls have come largely after tough scheduling slates such as a long road trip or several games in few days. However, after getting rest following those slumps, the Jazz have consistently been able to bounce back and put on some of their best runs of the season.

And while their latest slump was without question disheartening, now’s the time for them to put that behind them once again and go on a significant run. With all of their roster finally active and close to healthy, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Utah do just that.

And with no more five-game road trips or four games in five days stretches, Utah will hopefully be able to stay well-rested and dialed in for the rest of the season to find themselves in first place in the division by the regular season’s end.
