Rodney Hood’s awesome shimmy following his game winner against Dallas and Joel Bolomboy’s recent hot play are two exciting bits of current Utah Jazz news.
It’s been a fun stretch for Utah Jazz fans as the blue, green and gold have won ten of their last twelve contests including a thrilling last-second victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Friday.
With the clock winding down, Rodney Hood cruised down the court and drained a pull-up three with 0.8 seconds left to seal a three-point victory for the Jazz. It was an exciting way to end a game that got surprisingly close in the final period.
After Hood nailed the shot, he showed some great emotion and celebrated with a well-deserved shimmy.
That fun little shimmy took Jazz Nation by storm and has now been officially coined the “Hood Shimmy.” It has yet to be seen whether the Hood Shimmy will spread like wildfire across sports celebrations like dabbing or LeBron’s high-knee stomp celebration move, but if Jazz Nation has any say it looks like it will indeed become the new rage.
In fact, if you use #HoodShimmy with your best impression of Rodney’s celebration, you could find yourself featured on today’s broadcast. Sounds like a fun way to grab fifteen minutes of fame to me!

Hopefully this will be just one of many clutch shots that Rodney Hood will hit in his career with the Jazz. And if we got to see a few more of those celebratory shimmies due to more big wins, I’d definitely be A-OK with that!
In other news, Joel Bolomboy was recently reassigned to the Salt Lake City Stars and has been playing some great ball. In Friday’s contest against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, he put in a solid 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field.
That was nice, but he really came alive in the following contest against the Vipers yesterday where he exploded for 28 points and 19 rebounds. In the highlight reel below, you can see a great deal of Bolomboy’s versatility as he blocks shots, plays well in the post, runs the floor and strokes some smooth jumpers.
While Bolomboy is likely still a ways away from becoming a steady producer in the NBA, it’s great to see him playing so well in the D-League where he can continue to develop and improve his game. While the Jazz have a lot of depth this season, the one place where they’re a little thin is at the center position.
Particularly with Derrick Favors‘ recent bout with injury, it would have been nice to have another big body down low to back-up Gobert and allow Quin Snyder a bit more flexibility in the paint. That role could some day be filled by Joel Bolomboy.
Thus, it’s good to see him making strides forward and hopefully he can be a solid contributor off the bench at that position in the near future as he continues to hone his skills and improve on both ends of the court.
