A game-by-game look at Utah Jazz forward Trey Lyles’ incredible summer league performance.

During the Utah Jazz Summer League, Trey Lyles showed glimpses of what’s to come. In the Las Vegas Summer League, he made a point of showing the world how good he is, and how great he can be in the future.

Here’s how it all went down–

Utah Jazz Summer League Game 1, vs San Antonio Spurs

Trey Lyles came out firing on all cylinders, hitting on four of his first five field goal attempts, two of them being three-pointers. From that point onward, he struggled to make shots, missing his last nine shots from the field.

Still, Lyles showed the ability to not let his poor shooting impact other parts of his game, still managing to pull down 12 rebounds and get two assists in his 29 minutes on court.

Utah Jazz Summer League Game 2, vs Boston Celtics

This outing showed another dimension to Lyles’ game, namely the ability to get the free throw line. He was aggressive with the ball in his hands and made good on nine of his 10 attempts from the charity stripe.

Lyles finished with a stat-line of 26 points on 8-of-21 from the field and 1-of-5 from three-point range to go along with 11 rebounds and two assists.

Utah Jazz Summer League Game 3, vs Philadelphia 76ers

Lyles had a bad day shooting the ball, closing out the Utah Jazz Summer League with a 4-for-17 night, but he forced his way to the free throw line once again, making 11-of-12 when he got there. He ended up with some nice numbers in the box score despite his poor shooting, with 22 points and eight rebounds.

Las Vegas Summer League Game 1, vs Washington Wizards

Trey Lyles put his best foot forward to tip-off the Las Vegas Summer League, scoring 28 points on just 16 shots. He showed aggressiveness getting to the basket and made 11-12 from the free throw line to go along with five rebounds and a pair of steals.

Las Vegas Summer League Game 2, vs Portland Trail Blazers

After sitting out in the win against the Pelicans, Lyles returned to have a huge game against the Blazers in a thrilling match-up that ended on a game-winning shot. Lyles went 10-20 from the field, 5-7 from three-point land and 5-5 from the free throw line to make up his 30 points.

This was a really dominant performance that showed exactly what Lyles’ is capable of if he ever needs to play the role of ‘number one option’ in the future.

Lyles’ role this upcoming season for the Jazz will most likely be providing a scoring punch off the bench. It doesn’t sound like a huge deal considering his potential, but Lyles has the ability to add a new dimension to the Utah Jazz with his versatility and tremendous knack for scoring the basketball.

Overall, it’s safe to say that Lyles had a successful summer league in all aspects of the game. Whether its scoring, rebounding, playmaking or just playing hard defense, Lyles did it, and did it well.
