4. Dejounte Murray – San Antonio Spurs
Drafted: 29th pick in 2016 Draft
Last season stats: 16.1 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 1.8 steals per game on 42% shooting at the University of Washington
In a draft that seemed nearly impossible to get a feel for where most players would go, most mock drafts had Dejounte Murray as a lottery pick. But sure enough, in unpredictable fashion, Murray slipped all the way down to the Spurs with the 29th pick.
The fall was so noticeable that LeBron James (mere days after winning the NBA Championship) noticed the talented Murray slip. James called Murray to congratulate him on going to “one of the best organizations in the world”.
While Murray doesn’t have the best outside shot, he has great length for a point guard and is a very good defender. Murray has a good chance to go down as one of the best players out of this draft class. And any time the Spurs organization can get their hands on a rookie with a lot of upside, they always seem to capitalize on it.
