10. Joel Bolomboy – Utah Jazz
Drafted: 52nd pick in 2016 Draft
Last season stats: 17.1 points, 12.6 rebounds, 1.2 blocks per game on 57% shooting and 36% shooting from three-point range at Weber State University
Joel Bolomboy was the first of three players that the Jazz selected at the end of the second round of the 2016 NBA Draft. The reason he’s a player to keep an eye on is because out of the three rookies, he’s the one that has the best shot at making the opening day roster.
Once players and teams are allowed to officially sign contracts, Trevor Booker will sign a 2-year $18.5 million deal with the Brooklyn Nets. Booker’s departure may have the Jazz looking for someone to play minutes behind Derrick Favors, Rudy Gobert and Trey Lyles. The Jazz still have Jeff Withey and Tibor Pleiss under contract as well, but neither got a ton of playing time last season when the team was healthy.
The Jazz have been aggressive this offseason acquiring veteran players and are looking to win now. Bolomboy was a four-year senior at Weber State so his game is likely more developed than rookies that leave college after one year. While it’s still a long shot that Bolomboy starts the season with the Jazz as opposed to the Salt Lake City Stars, the fact that he could make the roster makes him a player to get excited for.
