2015-16 Utah Jazz Slogans
By Blake Draper
Even though we’re in the middle of summer league and the regular season is months away (the NBA hasn’t even released the 2015-16 schedule), it’s never too early to start looking ahead in regards to important matters such as team and player slogans. This is one tool the league and its teams use to help drum up interest among its fans and hopefully capture the attention of new fans. Without further ado, here are a few options for the Jazz to consider for 2015-16.
New Age Jazz
A while ago I took to Twitter to get ideas for slogans. I didn’t get many responses, but here’s one that I enjoyed:
New Age Jazz is a great slogan. With Dennis Lindsey and his staff assembling a roster and Coach Snyder and his crew working like crazy on player development (as spotlighted in this Sports Illustrated piece by Jake Fischer), it really does feel like the Jazz have entered a new age in which they will only get more and more competitive over the next few years. Of course, the slogan also works as a nice play on the musical aspect of the Jazz name.
Jazz Rising
I’m a relatively uncreative person, which is probably why I was having a hard time coming up with some of my own slogan ideas. Ultimately, the best one I came up with is Jazz Rising. With the momentum the team built after the All-Star break last season there is a lot of excitement in Jazz Nation and it is largely believed that the Jazz are an up-and-coming (or rising) team.
Utah Jazz Player Slogan: No Team All Defense
This slogan was coined by Rudy Gobert himself. After taking some time off following the end of the season, Rudy shared this photo on June 3:
Of the several hashtags Rudy used, No Team All Defense jumps out. You may remember that Rudy Gobert wasn’t named to any of the NBA’s All-Defensive teams. Rudy remembers. Trust me.
"But how many Jazz players were in either All Defensive teams?"
To me, No Team All Defense should be on a Rudy Gobert T-shirt. I even suggested as much to the Utah Jazz on Twitter:
I never got a response, so maybe I’ll ask again.
Back To The Playoffs
The Jazz last made the playoffs in 2012 when they were swept by the San Antonio Spurs. The season after that they just missed the playoffs. The 2013-14 season was an unmitigated disaster, and last year was solid overall, and exceptional after the All-Star break. After seeing the Jazz miss the playoffs the last three seasons, and seeing how well the team played at times last season, it’s time to for the Jazz to get Back To The Playoffs. With Gordon, Derrick, Rudy and Coach Snyder leading the way and a couple of 2015 playoff teams being severely weakened in free agency, returning to the playoffs should be a hope, a goal, and even a slogan. Out of all of the slogans here, this is my favorite, even though I still want the Jazz to make those Rudy Gobert t-shirts.
Do you have any slogan ideas for the 2015-16 Utah Jazz or individual players? Do you have any thoughts on the ones here? Let me know – I’d love to hear from you.
