John Stockton Becomes NBA’s All-Time Steals Leader—Just two days after the anniversary of John Stockton‘s 10,000th career assist, we have the anniversary of yet another milestone.
It was 19 years ago today, on February 20, 1996, that Stockton recorded his 2,311th steal in a home game against the Boston Celtics, making him the league’s all-time leader in that department. Other than the milestone, it was a ho-hum scoring affair for John who finished the game with only six points, but he did have 14 assists and two steals.
Meanwhile, Karl Malone dropped 24 on 10 of 11 shooting and Antoine Carr, Greg Foster and Adam Keefe combined for 44 points in a 112-98 victory.
Not that this needs mentioning from me for validation, but there’s really no way anyone is going to break John’s records.
Ever.
