Utah Jazz Draft History: 2000 – Present

2008

The Jazz continued to be one of the best teams in the Western Conference in the 2007-08 season. The Jazz finished the regular season with a 54-28 record and won the Northwest Division once again. The Jazz made it through the first round, defeating the Houston Rockets in six games. However, this season, the Jazz would fall in the semifinals to the Los Angeles Lakers, also in six games. Williams and Boozer continued to dominate, as both had another excellent season statistically. Boozer averaged 21.1 points and 10.4 rebounds, while Williams added 18.8 points and 10.5 assists per game. The Jazz ended the season with the 23rd pick in the draft.

With that 23rd pick, the Jazz took Kosta Koufos out of Ohio State University. There isn’t really a lot of bad things to say about Koufos. He played well during his tenure with the Jazz before they traded them. Then with the Denver Nuggets, and this season with the Memphis Grizzlies, Koufos played well. The only real thing that I look at that the Jazz screwed up on with this pick, is that the very next pick, the Seattle Supersonics, now Oklahoma City Thunder, drafted Serge Ibaka. If the Jazz were going to go big man in this draft with that first round pick, they missed out on a better big there.

This is also the draft where the Jazz drafted Ante Tomic. Jazz fans have yet to see Tomic play for the Jazz, however, he has been playing well in Europe. You can check out the video above of some of his highlights during the Top 16 tournament in the 2013-14 season. Tomic, hopefully will come over soon, but there really hasn’t been much word on him for a long time.
