Gordon Hayward
Like Favors, Gordon Hayward had an opportunity to sign a contract extension with the Jazz during the off-season. Unlike Favors, Hayward didn’t get a deal done before the deadline. After the season, Hayward will become a restricted free agent and can sign an offer sheet with any team he chooses. Like Favors, Hayward has a unique set of skills. He is 6′ 8″, but has handles like a point guard, which makes him very attractive to a lot of GM’s. This season was the first one for Gordon as the #1 option in the offense.
To start the season, Gordon has played really well in that role. Averaging 16.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game. As the case can be for most shooters sometimes, Gordon had a little rough patch for about a week where he couldn’t seem to find the basket and struggled offensively. Things really opened up for Gordon though once Trey Burke returned from injury. Trey helps open up the floor and gets Gordon better looks.
We always compare Gordon to Paul George, ever since they were drafted into the league. Prior to this season, per 36, there numbers were practically identical. This season, Gordon has fallen behind George a bit, but George is having an incredible year so far. One area that Hayward is really lacking in however, is his 3 point shooting. So far on the season, Hayward is only shooting 28% from 3. That is one area he really needs to improve on.
