3 players to watch during the Jazz's third preseason game vs the Mavericks

Some of the Jazz's players have brought some legitimate intrigue.

The Utah Jazz will get their chance to defend their undefeated preseason record against the reigning Western Conference champions, the Dallas Mavericks.

The Jazz had the same preseason starting lineup against the New Zealand Breakers that they did against the Houston Rockets. Don't be surprised if they have that same lineup again against the Mavericks.

There's no need to rehash what's already been said in that regard because the Jazz are sending a pretty simple message overall: they're rolling with this lineup. What remains to be seen is whether or not they keep this starting lineup on opening night.

But that's not relevant for their game against the Mavericks. At this point, with preseason only lasting for so much longer, the Jazz should simply look at who on their roster should be given a closer look in their rotation.

It's been two games, but the Jazz already have a few standout players who definitely deserve more attention as they wrap up their preseason.

1. Johnny Juzang

Anyone who has been watching the preseason probably knew this was coming. Juzang has evolved into a fan favorite since the preseason. At his size, Juzang is proving that he could give Jazz another dimension to their squad by providing shooting with his size.

If this shooting is not a mirage, Juzang could be making the case to be in their rotation. He has typically shown up late in games, but he has shown enough that he deserves time against actual NBA players. That way, the Jazz can truly see if he's good enough to be thrown to the wolves.

Since they are rebuilding, the Jazz will explore every avenue to build a foundation of young, promising talent. While the draft is the go-to option for that, Juzang has come up because of the NBA's system with two-way players. If the Jazz whiff on some of their draft picks down the line, Juzang could be a pleasant surprise for them.

2. Isaiah Collier

Collier came into the NBA well-regarded for being NBA-ready. Making an All-Star game might not be in the cards, but his skillset makes him ready for NBA competition sooner rather than later. In short, he projects to be someone who the Jazz would put around their future cornerstones.

Some of Collier's NBA-ready smarts are already showing up on the court, between his defense and his ability to draw fouls.

However, much like with any young player, there will be growing pains.

Collier has quite a mountain to climb since Keyonte George, Jordan Clarkson, and Collin Sexton will take the lion's share of Utah's guard minutes. These last few preseason games should be him trying to prove he shouldn't be on the Jazz's bench for the upcoming season.

3. Kyle Filipowski

Filipowski did not do too well in his preseason debut with the Jazz, not hitting one of his shots (all of which were threes), making him look like he might be a project. However, he looked much better against the Rockets.

The Jazz will get to see which player they will get from Filipowski against the Mavericks. If he shows that he's ready for now, he gives the Jazz another stretch big who could complement very well next to the likes of Lauri Markkanen and Walker Kessler.

With the Jazz more likely than not trying to get rid of John Collins, Filipowski could prove to be an apt replacement should they fix that problem not too long from now.
