Utah is staying active at the trade deadline. This morning, Utah has traded Kelly Olynyk and Ochai Agbaji to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for a first-round pick, Otto Porter, and Kira Lewis, according to Woj.

Kelly Olynyk is getting older, and has been rumored to be on the trading block since last year. Utah is focusing on youth, and wants to accumulate assets that could be part of Utah's long-term goals. Losing Agbaji is tough to swallow, but his production has been underwhelming this season. For a team hoping to find its core of the future, Agbaji must not have been in Utah's plans.

It was later confirmed that the pick would be the least-favorable pick out of OKC, Clippers, Rockets, or the Jazz's own 2024 first. This means that accounting for yesterday's trade, Utah will now have a late first-round pick and an early second-round pick in a draft where they used to have none. I'm assuming this means that Utah's front office either has its eyes on some players who are projected to be taken in the late first to early second round of the 2024 draft or is accumulating picks in preparation for a future move.

Toronto also dumped Otto Porter and Kira Lewis to the Jazz to match salaries. Porter is a seasoned veteran who has won a championship with the Warriors in 2022 but has struggled with injuries, only playing 23 games in his two years as a Raptor. Don't expect Porter to steal much playing time from Utah's young players. He's still recovering from injury and is on an expiring contract. Utah could still look to flip him to a contender before the deadline.

Kira Lewis is only 22 years old but has shown very little improvement in his four years in the NBA. He's been traded three times this season, so we'll see if the Jazz plan to keep him around. He will likely see limited playing time with Utah.

I not sure why Toronto made this deal. This season, they traded away OG Anunoby and Pascal Siakam to officially start their rebuild. Yet in the same season, they are trading a first-round pick for a veteran player in Kelly Olynyk. This trade should make Toronto better in the short-term, but seems counterproductive to their effort to rebuild around Scottie Barnes.

For Utah, this is a good pick to accumulate draft capital and stay focused on their rebuilding efforts. They are making it clear that making the playoffs is not their priority for this season. This feels like it could be the trade that leads to the next trade, but for now, the Jazz are being patient and making the right moves at the right times.
