5 Lauri Markkanen trades that the Jazz cannot refuse
By Tyler Watts
1. Thunder pull off a blockbuster
Oklahoma City has a roster filled with young talent and seven first-round picks from other teams plus theirs to trade. The Thunder do not have room and desperately need to make a consolidation trade. It is time as Oklahoma City sits second in the Western Conference and looks like a title contender.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a top-ten player in the world. Chet Holmgren is quickly becoming a feared number two with Jalen Williams, Josh Giddey, and Lu Dort rounding out the starting five. The Thunder have arguably the best roster in the league if they can add another All-Star to their mix.
This is a massive package, but the Thunder figure to be contenders for the foreseeable future. Giving up three picks in the 20s plus two swaps that never happen is nothing. Oklahoma City needs to bet on themselves. Get a prime All-Star and push toward winning the championship.
Can the Utah Jazz get a massive package for Lauri Markkanen before the Feb. 8 trade deadline? They appear open to listening. Utah will set a monstrous price and wait for a team to meet it. If Markkanen is the best player available, that could happen. There will be rumors, so stay tuned.
