The San Antonio matchup has come at the right time for the Utah Jazz's revival
By Chad Porto
The Utah Jazz are on a roll, climbing up out of the bottom of the NBA's Western Conference and emerging right back into the playoff race. The Jazz are 5-2 in their last seven and are now three games behind the Golden State Warriors for the last play-in spot. The team is getting healthier, and the lineup is finally starting to look like a respectable starting five. So it's almost perfect that of all the teams the Jazz are about to play, the next ones on the docket just so happen to be the lowly San Antonio Spurs.
The Spurs are truly terrible, just 4-24, and are 1-9 in their last 10. Had it not been for the Detroit Pistons and their 26-game losing streak, it'd be very clear that the Spurs are the worst team in the NBA. That's exactly the kind of team the Jazz need to face to help get themselves situated.
The Jazz are a team that could very easily right the wrongs of an early season collapse by putting together a few key wins, and getting back into the playoff hunt, but they've got to take advantage of teams like the Spurs because the easy teams are not going to be around forever.
After the Spurs game, the Jazz will have to take on the New Orleans Pelicans, the Miami Heat, the Dallas Mavericks, the Boston Celtics, the Philadelphia 76ers, the Milwaukee Bucks, and the Denver Nuggets in seven of their next eight games. Four of those teams have 20 wins already and will be very tough outs for the Jazz.
That stretch of games will also go a long way to show whether or not the Jazz have put together a good enough starting five and rotation needed to further push for a playoff spot this season or not. If they lose all seven of those games, then this little stretch of recent success won't matter too much. That's why it's imperative that the Jazz trounce the Spurs, as wins this easy won't be coming around all that much for the next few weeks.
