Pistons vs. Jazz NBA expert prediction and odds for Wednesday, Jan. 3 (Utah is elite at home)
By Peter Dewey
The Utah Jazz are coming off one of their best wins of the season on Monday, defeating Dallas at home, and now they’ll have a cupcake matchup against the 3-30 Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night.
Detroit did win over the weekend, but the team was promptly smoked by the Houston Rockets on Monday in a game where Cade Cunningham scored just six points.
There is a key trend that favors Utah in this one, and that may be where my best bet is. First, let’s break down the latest odds.

Pistons vs. Jazz key players to watch
Detroit Pistons
Cade Cunningham: There isn’t much going well with this Detroit team, but Cade Cunningham has been playing great basketball. He’s averaging 23.0 points per game, and he’s due for a bounce-back showing against a weak defense after shooting 3-for-16 against Houston.
Utah Jazz
Jordan Clarkson: Fresh off of a triple-double in his last game, Jordan Clarkson is now averaging 17.0 points per game on the season and has 20+ points in three of his five games since returning from an injury.
Pistons vs. Jazz prediction and pick
After being banged up most of the season, Utah finally has some key players like Clarkson, Lauri Markkanen and Walker Kessler in the lineup on a nightly basis.
That’s bad news for the 3-30 Pistons, as they were dismantled by the Houston Rockets on Monday night.
Utah is the best home team in the NBA, going 12-3 against the spread at Delta Center. I love the Jazz again tonight, especially after they beat the Mavericks by 37 in their last game.
The Pistons have struggled on the road, going 1-16 straight up and just 7-10 against the spread as a road dog.
This is a tough environment to turn that record around in.
