There's a lot of hype surrounding Williams going into his rookie season. He may not necessarily be the NBA's next superstar right away, but he has shown flashes of being a connector even if he hasn't played one NBA minute.
Team USA typically boasts the best American-born players, but it also ensures that they have solid role players who fill in holes. Expecting Williams to make an All-Star game right away is crazy, but he has four years to show that, at the very least, he is multifaceted, which is definitely a reasonable expectation and could be good enough to make a case for him to be on the team.
Team USA is more than happy to add players who don't have much NBA experience as long as they provide a skillset not many other players do. Williams may not be a main attraction, but if he lives up to the expectations, he could get his shot on Team USA.
