Jusuf Nurkic injury could clear runway for Kevin Love-Jazz reunion

The Jazz don't have to do this if they don't think that it's truly necessary, but there are worse options out there.

It's more likely than not that the Utah Jazz will look internally when trying to find someone to replace Jusuf Nurkic as he nurses his latest injury. They don't have downright terrible options to choose from. In fact, Kyle Filipowski could not only replace Nurkic impact-wise, but be even better if all goes right in an elevated role.

But even so, it's not like the Jazz couldn't use more big man depth. If Nurkic's injury becomes a recurring problem - knock on wood it won't - then Utah could use another big man to fill the void. While the options aren't exactly great - what's old friend Kelly Olynyk up to? - the Jazz could do worse than Kevin Love.

All signs pointed to Utah bringing Love back this summer, but they didn't because of... reasons? Okay, in all fairness, at his age, he's not the most useful addition. In all honesty, we all know what Love can and can't do, but he was loved in that locker room, and he embraced his role a the veteran presence in that locker room.

So while it's not like Utah really needed him before, with Nurkic out, if they decide they want someone who not only would beef up the frontcourt (strictly speaking) but also has familiarity with the team, Love would make sense.

They should look into it if their Nurk-less frontcourt is a problem

Everyone in Utah would absolutely understand if the Jazz don't really want to bring back Love even after the tough break with Nurkic. Not bringing him back was a pretty good sign in and of itself. And since Nurkic won't be out super long, Utah probably doesn't have much urgency to add anyone at the moment, let alone Love.

The only they should consider it is if Nurkic's absence actually prove to be a problem combined with the fact that their problems stem from an extremely undermanned frontcourt. The truth is, Nurkic's injury will definitely force Utah to make some odd adjustments to start, but their frontcourt is actually pretty good.

The rebounding will be in question until they answer the call without Nurkic. If it proves to be a problem that is costing them games, and they are digging themselves deep into a hole, then they should add Love if their desperation forces them to.

Plus, with the veteran leadership he brings, Love would be a good roster addition, even if he doesn't provide much on the floor. The Jazz have every right to be patient about this because even they don't know how this season will start without Nurkic.

At this point, if Utah brought Love back to the team at this point, the general response would be, "Sure, why not?"
