A Jordan Clarkson-Jazz reunion shouldn't be out of the question

The Utah Jazz waived Jordan Clarkson because he didn't fit their current plans for this season. It worked out for everyone, as Utah could focus on developing their young guards while Clarkson got the chance to play for a title contender again. Well, next season, the Jazz will be fighting for a playoff spot again, so who's to say a reunion can't happen?

Utah will have a chaotic offseason ahead, as they've got potentially drafting a lottery pick, extending Keyonte George, and re-signing Walker Kessler and Jusuf Nurkic. In so doing, they will also be looking for help on the cheap, and that's where someone like Clarkson would work out.

He hasn't been the same Jordan Clarkson that simultaneously made Jazz fans cheer and cringe at the same time for five and a half seasons in Utah, but he has shown that he can get it going every once in a while.

As far as cheap options go, Utah could do worse on the free agent market, and he has even more appeal because he has familiarity with Will Hardy's system. Adding in his 27-point performance he just had against the Jazz (doing them a favor in the process, no less), and it's clear he still has some juice left.

The Jazz have brought back alumni before for playoff runs

While one may argue that the Jazz would bring him back only for sentimental reasons, the Jazz have brought back players they once let go to help with their playoff runs. Remember when they brought Derrick Favors back one year after they dumped him for cap room?

Granted, the reunion didn't exactly work out, but no one disagreed with the idea at the time. Sadly, the reunion also led Utah to make a trade with Oklahoma City that put them in their current precarious position, but that wouldn't necessarily be the case with Clarkson.

His value has fallen hard enough that he wouldn't be nearly as expensive as Favors was when the Jazz brought him back in 2020. Utah will need some backcourt depth, and while Clarkson might not be what he was, at this stage of his career, he is cheap scoring, which Utah could certainly use with how much money they will throw around this summer.

Clarkson still clearly has love for Utah

Before Utah's matchup against New York, Clarkson made it clear that he still has plenty of love for Utah. That love showed itself before the game, but the Jazz made it clear that the feeling was definitely mutual.

That's why it's very possible the Jazz might look to bring him back. There is two-way loyalty on that front that could lead to a reunion between the two sides if Clarkson is struggling to find a good market and the Jazz are struggling to find some backcourt depth.

He may not have the same role that he did before, but for a veteran's minimum contract, Clarkson would be solid value for Utah.
