Jazz should orchestrate Kris Dunn reunion if they get the chance

The Jazz's defense has been lousy this season. While that's not very surprising, getting Dunn back could help with that.

A lot is going wrong for the Utah Jazz. On both sides of the court, they have left a lot to be desired. Offensively, they've been bad in part because they can't hit any shots (29th in offensive rating). Defensively, they have actually been better (24th in defensive rating), but that's not saying much.

Jaren Jackson Jr.'s return will probably help with this, whenever that happens. However, he's just one player. A playoff-caliber defense requires multiple parts to be taken seriously. One player who would make sense is old friend Kris Dunn.

Dunn's brief stint with Utah more or less saved his career, as it led to him getting his biggest NBA contract. He's pretty limited offensively, which can be a problem, but he has shown time and time again how suffocating his point of attack defense is, and it hasn't gone away.

On the season, Dunn has the second-most deflections with 43, per Stat Defender, behind only Dyson Daniels. He disrupts so much offensive flow by himself, and that kind of superpower is what the Jazz need to get their season back on track.

There haven't been any rumors indicating that the Los Angeles Clippers are looking to trade Dunn, but given that they too have had a horrible start and are running low on options, Dunn could be available not too long from now.

How a Dunn trade is feasible

Dunn is in the last year of a team-friendly deal, and will make $5.7 million this season. He would be quite easy to acquire because he wouldn't require much to pry him from the Clippers. Although, that's if the Clippers make him available.

Utah may have an appealing offer. Not long ago, they opted not to exercise the last year of Isaiah Collier's rookie contract. That doesn't necessarily mean it's over between the two sides, but it does open the door for him to become a flyer for a team looking to start a new chapter, like the Clippers, after the fallout from the Kawhi Leonard drama.

Hence, they may be more than happy to take on Collier in exchange for Dunn in their hopes of starting over with everything going against them. Their ship is already sunk and have very few options to improve their current standing.

It would be better to do that than to let Dunn walk for nothing. Collier is younger and would have more opporutnities on a team like the Clippers. Dunn would be awesome in Utah because he was before and has proven to thrive in Will Hardy's system.

Why not add someone who knows how Hardy operates while also making their defense better? Dunn doesn't change Utah's trajectory by himself, but he's a start.
