Jazz can hit two birds with one stone in Ayo Dosunmu pursuit

Dosunmu just made a pretty good case for the Jazz to go after him this offseason!

Acquiring Jaren Jackson Jr. ate into the Utah Jazz's cap space, but there's still some left over. It's why Austin Reaves has still come up, even after the JJJ trade happened. He's still basically out of the question unless the Los Angeles Lakers, but Ayo Dosunmu shouldn't be. In fact, the Jazz have some extra motivation to go after him: make themselves better while worsening the Timberwolves.

Nothing personal against Minnesota in the slightest, but they still owe Utah a few more assets even after the Rudy Gobert trade. Hence, there's a golden opportunity here. The Jazz can't offer as much as they could have before the JJJ trade, but will still operate under the cap.

After the performance Dosunmu just had, it's pretty clear he should be the Jazz's main target this summer with a non-taxpayers MLE.

He may have just had a good enough performance for the Jazz to try to talk themselves into a sign-and-trade, but Minnesota might not be too open to that with the former intending to be as good as possible a deal like this possibly making the latter openly worse.

Regardless, it's performances like these that get guys like Dosunmu paid. When thrust into a bigger role, Dosunmu put up a career-high performance at the perfect possible time. That's when teams ante up, and the Jazz should be one of them. Especially during a time when very few teams will have cap space this summer.

Dosunmu could turn into a super sub in Utah

In other words, he could be the player he currently is with Minnesota. The Timberwolves acquired him following the departure of Nickeil Alexander-Walker and the decline of Mike Conley Jr.. His acquisition has kept their season a float. With Donte DiVincenzo out indefinitely and Anthony Edwards' status up in the air, they will turn to Dosunmu until Edwards returns.

It's safe to say Dosunmu has been up to the task, and that's what makes a player like him a super sub. There's still some hesitance to call Utah a title contender, but whether you consider them one or not, they will do everything in their power to put themselves among the NBA elites. Having a super sub gives them ample chance to do as such.

Knowing that he's capable of this would make him quite the weapon to have on a team like the Jazz. Since Utah could use some more guard depth too, it'd be nice to have some reinforcements on a team that even with the amount of talent it possesses, still has some question marks next season.

Dosunmu has been pretty brilliant overall in these playoffs that he might be too good to be a super sub. Because money is pretty tight across the league, he might not have a choice but to accept it. When he does, the Jazz may take great advantage from such a golden opporunity.
