Jazz get sad, but not the worst news about Isaiah Collier's injury

Collier will be out for some time, but from the sounds of things, it won't be for too long.

Since the Utah Jazz started their preseason, Isaiah Collier has proven to be both a stud and a dud for them throughout their three games thus far. However, the good has outweighed the bad, and the bad is understandable because he's a rookie.

Unfortunately, the Jazz may not start the season with Collier on the active roster. The Athletic's Tony Jones reported via his X account that Collier has a hamstring strain that will keep him out for their opening night.

Collier looked impressive enough that when healthy, he should get minutes in the Jazz's rotation, so it is somewhat of a tough blow. However, it's not the end of the world.

The Jazz could benefit from this

The funny thing about the Jazz is that if there's one area where they are completely set in, it's their guard rotation. They have Keyonte George, Collin Sexton, and Jordan Clarkson, who should man most of their minutes for the time being. In fact, with Collier out, the latter two could get more exposure for a potential trade.

Granted, that's been on a hot topic that's been brought up endlessly for months now. In fact, it's been two years in Clarkson's case. However, now that both of their contracts don't possess much of a long-term commitment, that could make it easier for them to get off Utah's payroll.

If they prove to raise their trade value a bit, it could help the Jazz get more assets for them while simultaneously helping their efforts to get Cooper Flagg. Better yet, if they play well enough to get traded, that then opens the door for Collier and George to get some burn together.

Collier and George may be undersized but could work as a duo. George is more of a scorer, while Collier is a high-IQ distributor. It's not a guarantee that they can work together, but luckily, the Jazz's timeline gives them plenty of cushion to see who among their young players fit.

That is, as long as Collier's injury does not become a problem for the Jazz throughout the season. Hamstring injuries are tricky because they are delicate. If they get worse, it can turn into a much worse problem down the line.

With low expectations, the Jazz have the time to see how good their young players are and how well they play with one another. Collier's injury is a setback, and it's a shame they won't get to see how he does against NBA bodies right away, but it opens up other opportunities for the Jazz.
