Rumor has it that with his time with the Utah Jazz likely done, Kevin Love may be on his way to rejoin the Cleveland Cavaliers. If he does, he would be rejoining forces with Donovan Mitchell. It would also fit the trend of Jazz alumni teaming up again since 2022.
For the record, this is not something that started right then and there four years ago. Jazz fans who have been around the block know all about when Karl Malone migrated to Hollywood for one last shot at a ring. What many forget is that he became teammates with Bryon Russell again with the Lakers.
So, it's not breaking new ground to see ex-Jazzmen play together again, but for some reason, ever since Utah traded Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert, we have seen a bunch of Jazz alumni reunite with each other so many times to the point where its basically comical.
And this started from pretty much the beginning. When Mitchell was traded to Cleveland, he was reunited with former Jazz fan favorite Ricky Rubio (and technically Love). Halfway into his first season with Minnesota, Gobert rejoined forces with Mike Conley Jr. (and Nickeil Alexander-Walker).
Since then, it's only picked up for both teams. From there on out, Minnesota brought in Joe Ingles, Johnny Juzang, and later, Kyle Anderson, while Cleveland brought in Georges Niang.
It's abundantly clear that while the Mitchell-Gobert era did not work out, the Jazz clearly had some of the right personnel around them.
This trend happened again this summer, and oddly enough, it didn't have any connection to Mitchell or Gobert.
Two Jazz alumni reunited on the Lakers
This summer, we saw Walker Kessler and Collin Sexton reunite on a Lakers team with much higher expectations than the Jazz teams they played for together.
In all fairness, that would not have been possible with Utah's involvement either directly or by proxy. The Jazz signed-and-traded Kessler in a deal many believe was a home run more for them than the Lakers. Utah also traded Sexton to Charlotte last summer, meaning what he planned to do next was out of their hands after that.
It just seems crazy that this keeps happening. Admittingly, it's a bit of a stretch to call the likes of Juzang and Anderson Jazz alumni when their time in Utah was brief and/or inconsequential.
Now with the Jazz planning to be as competitive as can be this season, one can only wonder which team's notable alumni will try to compete while being Jazzmen going forward.
