The Utah Jazz confirmed their immediate plans to win following the 2025-26 season when they acquired Jaren Jackson Jr. in February. The question is how serious they are going to be once they kick off this new era, as they are matching young star talent with win-now talent.
JJJ left nothing to interpretation when discussing his feelings on playing for the Jazz and what their goals are during his appearance on the "Number on the Board" podcast.
“I’m really excited, honestly," Jackson said. "I’ve been in Utah a lot this summer with the guys. We’re one-track-minded. One goal: Championship.”
Jackson elaborated on the kind of chemistry he's developing with his Jazz teammates to accomplish the goal.
"(We’re) putting it together and building every day. I try to tell them little stuff because I’m a little bit older. A lot of them are younger. Just stay even-keeled, don’t get too high or too low. Don’t get tired of the boring habits. If you win 13 games in a row, you have to keep it together, and then you celebrate when it’s all said and done. You can reflect later. Stay present and stay in the moment."

To be fair, Jackson took little time to form a playoff contender when he started his NBA career in Memphis, though that crashed and burned quickly enough that he now finds himself in Utah.
But now he's on a team talented enough to make the playoffs again. Evidently, he sees the vision strongly enough that he's immediately thinking about wings. To be fair, three games into his Jazz tenure, it was pretty obvious what the vision was, and now that nothing is holding the team back, he and the rest of his Utah teammates will finally be unleashed.
If JJJ is serious, will Utah look to improve if they have the chance?
If Jackson truly thinks a title is in the cards for Utah, will they try that with their current core, or will they make a deal to improve their chances immediately? We have seen teams decide not to improve their team immediately and regret it, but we have also seen teams jump the gun to get better and have the same result.
The Jazz have questions with their roster, but until they play, we won't know their red flags. It's very possible Jackson believes there is nothing wrong and that they have everything ready to go on their longest playoff run since 2007.
The West is a bloodbath, but at the same time, the parity in the conference is so strong that we haven't seen a West team repeat as conference champions since Golden State did it in 2019. San Antonio proved to be Oklahoma City's kryptonite back in May. Who's to say Utah can't be the same for San Antonio?
If they are, who's to say JJJ is off-base with his title aspirations?
