Jordan Clarkson has had a standard season for the Utah Jazz. His 15.8 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.8 rebounds while shooting 41% and 32.4% from three are good indicators that the former Sixth Man of the Year is still in his prime.
One would think that given his skills and how adequately paid he is for what he does, Clarkson would have more trade value around the NBA, but he doesn't. NBA Insider Marc Stein reported on The Stein Line what the price is for Clarkson, among other veterans with similar trade value.
"Other veterans believed to be available for second-round draft compensation with 39 days to go until the trade deadline include Valančiūnas and Brogdon, Toronto's Kelly Olynyk and Bruce Brown and Utah's Jordan Clarkson," Stein wrote.
This may not be due to what Clarkson can and cannot do but because teams are hesitant to invest much money in players of his caliber when trying to avoid the NBA's tax aprons. What also works against a potential Clarkson trade is his inconsistency to stay on the court for the past few seasons.
What this says about some of the other Jazz veterans
Stein did not say anything about some of the other Jazz veterans who can likely be had, like Collin Sexton, John Collins, and Drew Eubanks.
The fact that they're not mentioned may inadvertently demonstrate their value as well. Sexton not being put in the same tier as Clarkson demonstrates that the Jazz may want a first-round pick (or two) out of him. Eubanks not being mentioned may indicate he understandably less value than Clarkson.
Collins is a little interesting. Coming into the season, he had negative value, meaning that the Jazz would have had to attach a draft asset to get him off their payroll. He has played so well that he actually has a market after all.
It's weird to think about but he has played well enough that maybe teams are willing to trade more for him than Clarkson - Collins has been the better player this season - and yet, because of how much he's paid, it's feasible that they may want to pay less.
Now that we've seen several trades go down for the past week or so, more reports have come out setting the scene for which Jazz players are in trade talks and what they could go for. Trade buzz have painted a clearer picture of what Clarkson is going for. From here on out, expect more to come out about him and some of the other aforementioned trade candidates.
