There might not be an NBA team out there that doesn't make sense as a trade destination for Collin Sexton. He can score 20-plus points on any given night, and it won't take him a whole lot of shot attempts for him to do it.
Among the teams that could use Sexton is the Denver Nuggets. Almost two years removed from winning their first title, the Nuggets have looked like a shell of their former selves. Losing the pieces they did from their title team has hurt them to the degree that hardly anyone believes they're a title contender.
Sexton doesn't replace what they lost in Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Bruce Brown, and Jeff Green, but what he can bring to the floor can raise the Nuggets' ceiling to what it was. He's not the perfect answer for what's dragging them down, but he'd be an improvement.
SLC Dunk's James Hansen proposed the following trade that would send Sexton over to the Jazz's division rival.
Nuggets receive: Sexton
Jazz receive: Zeke Nnaji, Dario Saric, DaRon Holmes II, Jalen Pickett
This would help the Jazz's intentions for tanking, and if the Jazz are trying to get rid of Sexton by any means necessary, they might think about a trade like this. However, Sexton's good enough that the Jazz shouldn't straight-up dump him.
The Jazz wouldn't do this
While this deal would make perfect sense for a team like the Nuggets, it doesn't appeal much to the Jazz. The most appealing part of this trade from the Jazz's perspective is that they would take flyers on injured or little-used young players that Denver would offer along with a tiny bit of cap flexibility. But that's it?
That package doesn't sound like all it would take to pry someone like Sexton from the Jazz. Sure, Utah could afford to take flyers on some young talent when they approach the trading season, but Nnaji's current contract goes for three more seasons after this, and he's barely proven anything.
Outside of Saric, who would only be acquired only for financial purposes, none of these players hold any sort of value. What they would bring to the floor would be mostly hypothetical compared to Sexton, whose NBA skills are clear as day.
Since there have been reports that the Nuggets have looked into Jordan Clarkson, a trade like this would make sense for him but not for Sexton. If a first-rounder from Denver was included in this trade with few protections on it, the Jazz might consider this, but because it doesn't...
