Former Utah Jazz big man Micah Potter has been enjoying a breakout season with the Indiana Pacers this year. Despite the fact that the Pacers have been one of the worst teams in the league this year, largely due to the Tyrese Haliburton injury, Potter has been a shining light. He looks like a decent depth piece for Indiana moving forward.

After beginning his career with the Detroit Pistons, Potter spent the past three seasons with the Utah Jazz before joining the Pacers for the 2025-26 campaign. In his three seasons in Utah (from 2022 to 2025), Potter appeared in 61 games, playing 15.5 minutes per contest.

But now, he’s playing better than ever in Indiana.

Former Jazz big man Micah Potter is thriving on the Pacers

Potter has been a go-to piece for Rick Carlisle in the Pacers’ rotation this year. They’ve dealt with a ton of injuries, so there has been room for Potter to surge upward in the rotation, but still, Potter has made the most of his opportunities.

So far this season, Potter has appeared in 31 games for the Pacers, earning three starts in the process. He has played 19.6 minutes per contest, which is more than the 18.6 he played in his final season for the Jazz (2024-25).

In his 31 games, Potter has averaged 9.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.5 assists while shooting 49.2% from the field and an impressive 41.4% from deep on 3.7 three-point attempts per contest.

He’s been a legitimately impactful floor-spacing big man for Indiana this season, playing real minutes at the backup center position. In fact, he’s played the eighth-most minutes on the team.

Potter is 27 years old. It’s not as if the Jazz gave up on a blossoming youngster who still had time to reach his full potential. But sometimes, it’s not always the young players who need more time.

And right now, Potter is really coming into his own. In his last five games, Potter has played 20.8 minutes per game. He has averaged 13.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.0 assists while shooting 55.3% from the floor and 54.5% from beyond the arc on 4.4 three-point attempts per contest.

It looks like the Jazz may have given up on a 6-foot-9 big man who can fill it up from beyond the arc. They already have a few big men who can do that, but still, letting a guy like that just walk is never a great feeling.

Obviously, it’s a good thing for Potter that he found a place to get on the court. A place to show off his talents and, in an ideal world, earn himself some extra money in the NBA.
