The Utah Jazz are about to embark on a season that should provide plenty of excitement. Much of that will have to do with Darryn Peterson, one of the Jazz's most exciting prospects. Even if Utah probably won't depend on the rookie much, that doesn't mean he won't factor into their success this season.
Peterson is not only confident in himself, but he's confident in the team. In an exclusive interview with Andscape's Marc J. Spears, Peterson revealed that while he knows Jazz fans don't like to talk about the infamous pushoff from Michael Jordan, he used that to fuel the excitement even more this season.
"It’s not great to say, but I always remember Michael [Jordan] doing the snatch back and hitting that shot for the championship [in the 1998 NBA Finals]. So, that was probably one of the first memories I had of Utah Jazz. We can get that back. Get that ring."
It's amazing how he can bring up a sore subject, and yet, says something that should make fans grin in anticipation. He's not just about getting the most accolades. He wants titles to his name. He wants to bring Utah to a place they've never been: NBA Champions.
Tomorrow, he gets to show it on the court
Peterson is saying the right things, and Jazz alumni like Tyrone Corbin are saying the right things about him. Tomorrow, he gets to prove to everyone that he is a man of his word. Tomorrow is the start of something the Jazz may have never seen before as a fanbase.
He has the right mindset, the right talent, and he's going to be worked in slowly to a team that plans to win from the jump. It works out for everyone. Chapter 1 of his Jazz story will be about how he plays a tertiary role in the Jazz's success, but it may not be long before his story is about how he was the catalyst for the best team Utah has ever seen.
It might lead to some memories like the Jordan pushoff has given the Jazz fanbase for almost three decades now, but that's the price to pay to form a team that can win a title. Peterson knowing all about the most painful Jazz memory (which is older than him by the way) gives him the motivation to create his own version of the pushoff.
We've been begging for the season to start already, and Peterson's words will only make everything more exciting when the opening tip finally goes up!
