It didn't take long for Ace Bailey to leave an impression on the Utah Jazz. In only two Summer League games, Bailey left his mark on the court, but he has also left a mark that would give Anthony Edwards a run for his money: giving iconic quotes.
During the August 30 episode of "The Athletic NBA Daily," Fred Katz revealed what Bailey said about Utah after the Jazz drafted him.
"I don't know a lot about Utah, but I'm learning as we go. I know it's cold and it's hot. It gets cold and it gets hot here," Bailey told Katz.
Katz then added that Bailey told him he went to school in Jersey, so he's been in the cold, so he can deal with that, and he's been in the south, so he can deal with the heat.
Alex Speers added that he believes Bailey can be a "quote machine" while relaying what Bailey once told him.
"I ain't got no weaknesses and I got more than two strengths, big dog."
Among the players who have that arsenal of good quotes is Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards, who has been a quote machine since Day 1 of his NBA career. Part of Edwards' reputation has been his lack of filter, which has made it stand out among his peers.
Bailey would do the same if he follows Edwards' footsteps.
It'll be fun to have a Jazzman who can give iconic quotes
If Bailey turns into the Jazz's next face of the franchise, it would be a fun change of pace to have him be just as good at basketball as he would be at giving good quotes to the media. Some of Utah's best players ever have never really been ones to be cocky. They have confidence and humility, and there's nothing wrong with that,
But to have one that could inject a little spunk to the team could be a nice change of pace long term. Bailey's confidence in himself should also make the Jazz feel more confident in what he can do for the team. Even if Utah may not have been Bailey's preference, the Jazz took him for a reason, and now they may get one of the most entertaining stars the franchise has ever had.
It will be a slow climb, but what can make the Jazz even more of an entertaining team during this rebuild is having their primary youngster consistently show his confidence.
