Collin Sexton – Is he part of the Utah Jazz’s future?

Sadly, this is a question that has followed around Collin Sexton since the Cleveland Cavaliers drafted him in 2018. He came in before LeBron James had left for the Los Angeles Lakers and many wondered if the Cavs would keep him in an attempt to lure James back or if they’d trade him in a similar idea.

He’s played well offensively, though he’s not someone who’s really known for his three-point shot. He does score well from that level but he doesn’t shoot very often from that range. And that’s not great in a league that’s becoming more and more dependent on three-point shooting. Sexton is a reliable scorer but he’s not going to be a big threat from three.

So he has some questions offensively. He’s not perfect by any means. Then you factor in his terrible defense and Sexton’s value will seemingly fluctuate from person to person. He has three more years on his contract, but his contract could easily be moved. So if the Jazz wanted a bigger name, his contract could help precipitate that.

But Sexton is only 25 and is right in the same competition window as Lauri Markkanen and company. So the Jazz could opt to keep him and move someone like Jordan Clarkson instead. It’s really going to depend on Sexton at this point.
