The Utah Jazz have waived Romeo Langford, and it’s not a shocking move.

There are teams in the world of sports that are known for their unique game plans for handling and finding talent. The Dallas Mavericks really invested in foreign players, long before it became the norm. The Cleveland Guardians seek out pitchers who have talent but maybe lack that certain something-something and somehow, turn them into Cy Young candidates.

Sometimes a team is just known for being able to do something unique. The Utah Jazz tried to be one of those teams, signing a group of players over the last two offseasons who have flamed out elsewhere. Kris Dunn struggled to catch on with the Chicago Bulls and is now in the running, and should be the leading candidate, for the starting point guard spot.

The Jazz also signed Luka Samanic, a former first-round pick who flamed out with the San Antonio Spurs. This year, the Jazz have signed a few more. Most recently is Josh Christopher, a former first-rounder with the Houston Rockets who got traded to the Memphis Grizzlies and then waived.

And then there was Romeo Langford, who was picked up this offseason after a failed stint with the Boston Celtics. Despite Langford not playing much this preseason, just four minutes in one game according to ProBallers, Langford was axed by the Jazz this week.

The 23-year-old came to the Jazz with a lot of people in the NBA media and the NBA fandoms at large thinking that Langford would likely make the team in some capacity, even if it was just on a two-way contract.

But this wasn’t surprising. Langford was never an ultra-athlete like a LeBron James who could take over a game just by being quicker than everyone else. And he wans’t much of a shooter either, making his transition to the pro game very unlikely.

Now the Jazz will move on form Langford and will likely begin their search for another reclimation project they can sink their teeth into.
